Gonzaga Fans Urged To ‘Brokeback’ Chant
The 5th ranked Gonzaga fans have been asked to stop chanting “Brokeback Mountain” during their home basketball games. The chant, apparently, is meant to be an insinuation that the opposing player with the ball is gay.
Boosters of the program have asked students to refrain from making “inappropriate chants”, and basically use better judgement.
According to Helping Educate Regarding Orientation (HERO), a gay-straight alliance on Gonzaga’s campus, “This is not even remotely the first time that Kennel Club chanters have chanted homophobic phrases at basketball games.”
Faculty at the school feel that they are making progress with the elimination of the chants, as professors have brought it up in class and all of the students seem to be uncomfortable with the sexuality-questioning chant.

This is just ridiculous. There’s nothing more advantageous to a team than a good home-court advantage, and a rowdy student section is the best you can ask for. But when you have a large assemblance of people who apparently can’t use their brains and clap at the same time, then you’ve got problems.
Gonzaga fans should be biting their tongue because opposing teams could be chanting “One Man Team!”, I have a feeling that they won’t be talking so much trash next year when they come back down to Earth once Adam Morrison’s poorly-mustached self leaves them. And for the school to say that they asked the students about this situation, and that none of said students feels comfortable with the chant, yeah okay. That’s why thousands of them chant that phrase that so many of them feel so uncomfortable with, it makes sense to me.
